We were driving home from work/school yesterday when Cael saw a cat...
Cael: Mom, look! A cat!
Me: Oh yeah...do you like cats?
Cael: No, they bite.
Me: Oh, so you like dogs?
Cael: No, they bite, too.
Me: Not all dogs bite...we have Carmine and he doesn't bite you.
Cael: Well, actually he does when I pinch him.
Me: Well don't pinch him. Do you want me to pinch you?
Cael: No! Why would I want you to pinch me, you silly goose?!
Me: Well, just like you don't want me to pinch you; Carmine doesn't want you to pinch him.
Cael: Did you ask him?
Me: No...I just know he doesn't want to be pinched. I think you're missing my point.
Cael: Mom, don't poke me, either. It's not nice to use your hands... use your words.
I'm pretty sure I started off trying to teach him a lesson and I'm not sure how I came to be the one being reprimanded. So many of my conversations with this child end up very different from the way I intended them to go.
