Time to pray...6/23/11

We sat down to lunch Thursday as a family (my husband was off) and Cael decided he wanted to say the blessing...

Cael: Dear Jesus, please bless this food, and our family, and this wonderful day you have given us.  Bless my mom to know the spirit of God and bless my dad to behave himself.  In Jesus name, AMEN.

I love this child...he blessed our food, made me laugh, and left Jarod speechless!

The point...6/23/11

Cael wandered downstairs early Thursday morning (6:40) to find my mom sitting in the living room...

Cael: Grandma, what are you doing?
Mom: Well, I finished exercising and thought I would pray for a little while...
Cael: No.  The point is, you shouldn't leave your room until I come to get you.

Poor lady...living with us, she needs all the prayer time she can get!

Bad Guys...6/22/11

Cael and I were playing with his blocks this past Wednesday when he decided that Gotham City was in great danger...

Cael: Mom...I mean Batgirl, we need to go fight the bad guys!
Me: Okay.  Let's go!
Cael: Okay, you can fight the bad guys but don't fight Mr. Freeze.  He's my obligation.

Then he just ran off like it is completely normal for a 3 year old to use a word like "obligation".

Meet the pilot...6/11/11

Following our visit with the very understanding customs agent, I explained to Cael that he needed to use his real name.  We were still in the midst of this very important discussion when we boarded our plane.  As soon as we stepped on the plane, one of the lovely stewardesses looked at Cael and decided that he needed to meet the pilot and, of course, Cael was very agreeable...

Pilot: Hello young man!  What is your name?
Cael: Well...(looking at me)...my actual name is Cael but everyone calls me Batman.
Pilot: (laughing) Oh, I see.  Well Batman, how would you like to help me check our systems for flight?
Cael: Okay.  Then I have to go fight crime in Gotham City...

I'm beginning to wonder if my child really believes that he is Batman...it's cute at three but, I'm pretty sure, it won't be as cute when he's 23!

Customs...6/11/11

This past week we took a much needed vacation to see my amazing younger sister, Samantha.  Of course, going to Canada is quite a drive so we opted to fly.  It was Cael's first adventure in an airport and he took advantage of every moment; especially the moments spent with the customs agent...

Customs Agent: (handing Cael's passport back to us) Hello buddy.  What is your name?
Me: (In a stern whisper) Your real name...
Cael: My name is...Cael.
(This answer gave me some confidence in him.)
Customs Agent: How old are you?
Cael: 3
Customs Agent: What is your last name?
Cael: Batman.
Customs Agent: (chuckling) Okay...and who is this guy right here? (pointing at Cael's slightly embarrassed father)
Cael: Oh that's just Spiderman!  Superman and Ironman are up there! (pointing in his Papa and Uncle Randy's direction)
Customs Agent: (looking back to me as I shake my head and apologize)  He's cute and I'm sure he's yours.

This child is going to give me grey hair...I'm sure of it!

Let's not do that...6/7/11

I took Cael to see his friends at school today.  When we walked in, one of the little boys ran over and gave me a hug.  He started swinging on my hand and I guess Cael wasn't impressed.

Cael: (reaching up to put both hands on the boy's shoulders): Okay, let's not do that.  She's my mom.

At least he was gentle although pretty possessive...

Playing with Cael...6/6/11

Cael asked me to come to his room to play yesterday morning.  Of course, I agreed and picked up his Batman and Robin figures.  Just as I made them start talking he swooped in with his Spiderman figure...

Cael: (speaking as Spiderman): Hey!  What are you doing in my city fighting crime?
Me: (as Batman): Uh...we weren't fighting crime.  We were just hanging out...you know, sight seeing.
Cael: (Spiderman): Oh.  Well, next time you need to send me a message first and tell me you're coming.  Don't be rude...

I am definitely never showing up on his doorstep unannounced!

Yard Sale...6/4/11

This past Saturday we had a yard sale.  Cael was very ready to help until he noticed that his old toddler tent was out there and a very nice lady was looking at it...

Cael: Hi.  Don't touch that.  My mom says we can't touch that.
Lady: (looking confused and amused)  Oh...
Me: Cael, it's fine.  She can touch it...she might want to buy it.
Cael: Oh...(to the lady)...she said we can't touch it.
Me: Cael!
Cael: (to me in a growling whisper) It's mine!  (turning back to the lady with a sweet smile)

I had to wait for him to go inside to sell the silly tent.  He was more than willing to sell anything else...

That's not good enough...6/1/11

I was talking to Cael about the birthday shopping we are doing later today for his daddy.  I told him about the two gifts that we are going to buy him...

Cael: Is that all?
Me: Yes.  I thought that was good; don't you?
Cael: Well, that's not good enough!  I think we need to get him 5 things...
Me: Really?  What do you suppose we should get him?
Cael: Okay.  We need to get him...(names the two things I mentioned)...a Batman, bananas, and some cupcakes!  That is a great birthday present!
Me: Do you really think daddy is going to play with a Batman?
Cael: Yes, and he can share.

Oh, the fine art of buying something for someone else that you know you will end up getting.  If he grasps this concept at three, I feel bad for his future wife...just imagine how he will have perfected it by then!
